From the moment you fly into Sarasota International Airport, you can tell this is no ordinary vacation destination. The bright green island landscape is filled with upscale residential homes, towering beachfront condos, and modernized metropolitan areas. A coastline of white powder sugar sand made up of pure quartz is all that separates the island from the emerald colored waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay.
Siesta key is not your typical Florida beach. It's not covered with brown sand or a mixture of crushed shells, seaweed and shards of broken coral. There is no roaring surf or waves crashing on the beach, just the peaceful sound of waves no more than a couple inches high rolling up on shore, making just enough noise to remind you of where you are.
There is no shortage of fun activities to keep you entertained while you are visiting Siesta Key beach. All up and down the coastline you will find people snorkeling and swimming. Children gather at the shoreline to build sand castles, while their parents spend the day combing the beach in search of that perfect shell to take home.
The calm waters of the Gulf provides a great atmosphere for boaters. People migrate to Siesta Key beach from all over Southwest Florida to enjoy all sorts of water activities. Everything from parasailing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding to fishing, but most just come to anchor just off shore. The perfect place to take a break, refresh and lay out on the boat.
After a day of fun in the sun, it's time to explore St. Armand's Circle. An island shopping center located off the mainland right on Sarasota Bay. Here you will find a unique blend of sidewalk cafes, boutique shops, fine dining, and delicatessen to keep you entertained for the afternoon or an evening out. Afterwards, you can enjoy a scenic walk through St. Armand Circle were the sidewalks are lined with beautiful statues rich with information about their past, while you immerse in an atmosphere that supports Sarasota's deep-rooted culture.
If the beach scene is not your idea of the perfect vacation, no problem. Sarasota is a community rooted in culture dating as far back as 1911. John and Mable Ringling of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus left behind their legacy, the Ringling Museum of Arts that houses their personal collection of masterpieces, paintings and sculptures. Today there is over 40 art galleries in Sarasota along with a film festival, opera, symphony orchestra, and more than 10 theater troupes.
